Today we are going to learn the last part of the CullaKammaVibhanga Sutta. Now, you may remember that Culla means litter, or shorter. Well, don’t think that means it is somehow less important. You may be small, but your still important, aren’t you? In the same way, eventhough this discourse is called shorter, it has some big Dhamma in it that will help our lives now and in the future. We’ll learn why we can see people in the world who are very powerful and some who don’t have any power. Why some people are wealthy and some people are poor. And most importantly we’ll learn why some people are wise and some people are foolish.

Do you remember the karma or action we learned about in the last show? One was harming living beings, like humans or animals. The other was not harming living beings. What was the result of harming? One result is being born in a bad destination like hell or the animal world. The other result of harming is that we become sick very easily. And the opposite, not harming others? We can be reborn in a good destination and be very healthy.

Today we’ll learn about another set of actions and a way to become beautiful in the future.

Today we are going to learn the next part of the Cula Kamma Vibhanga sutta. Previously we learned about the type of action, or karma, that leads to someone having a short life or a long life. Do you remember what that is? The Supreme Buddha saw directly with his own mind that when we kill living beings, in the future we will have a short life. And if we give up killing, then that results in having a long life. When we keep the precepts we can be happy knowing that by observing the first precept we are helping ourselves to have a long life.

A few episodes ago we started to learn a new sutta taught by the Supreme Buddha, the Cula Kamma Vibhanga sutta. In that Sutta, Subha asked the Supreme Buddha why there are different kinds of people in the world. So why was it that this young man Subha, had the idea to ask the Supreme Buddha about these things related to karma? That’s what we’ll learn today.

Today we are going to start learning a new sutta. Well, new to us. Of course it’s very old because it was preached by the Supreme Buddha over two-thousand five hundred years ago. It’s called the CullaKammaVibhanga Sutta, the shorter discourse on Kamma or karma. I know that as kids you are all very curious about how karma works. This is a great sutta to learn so we can understand why we see so many differences between people in the world. It’s also useful to us so we know how we can experience the best things that we see in this life in our future lives.
